The Performing Arts Program and the New NWSS Highschool

It is a goal of the Music Auxiliary to bring a level of transparency to the development of a new highschool for the city of New Westminster. While this project has been discussed at length within the community, over many years, it is coming to what many hope to be the final leg of the process. The Music Auxiliary has been in contact with representatives from the School Board and various level of government to ensure that the Performing Arts are accounted for within the project development.

Massey Theatre and the Massey wing of NWSS house the performance and teaching spaces of the NWSS high school’s music (band and choir), drama, and dance programs, known collectively as the Performing Arts Department. Discussion about where the Performing Arts programs will be taught and where the students will rehearse and perform is urgently needed BEFORE Massey Theatre and the Massey building are torn down, as demolition of the teaching spaces and theatre and the construction activities on the NWSS site will have a very significant impact on NWSS’s music, drama, and dance programs. The impact, however, can be mitigated by a comprehensive assessment of the programs’ needs and development of plans to provide adequate practice, rehearsal, performance and storage spaces during the demolition and construction phases of the capital project.

It is for this purtpose that this website will offer transparency towards the efforts made on behalf of the Performing Arts Department by the Music Auxiliary, on behalf of the students and faculty. Should you have any questions regarding this process, please feel free to use the form on this page to send the Music Auxiliary a message with your question or concerns. As well there is an open invitation to the Monthly Music Auxiliary meetings, which are scheduled on the Event Calendar.

Donations can come in all shapes and sizes...

We are ACCEPTING donations of all kinds, whether it be cash or cheque, or used instruments of all sorts.

Our goals are:

  • to provide good quality instruments to students who need them;
  • to provide scholarships for our students’ future studies;
  • to make our band and choir trips affordable for everyone.

Gifts large and small are very much appreciated.  We currently do not need any pianos, although excellent, high quality pianos might be useful.

Make a gift in honour of your favourite student, teacher or in memory of a loved one – or simply because you love music and the opportunity for students to learn and perform. It’s a wonderful way to support the music program which means so much to our students, their families and our community.

Leave a legacy of harmony!
